Resfeber: The restless race of the traveler’s heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together.

My friend Paul first taught me the meaning of this Swedish word before he was about to leave the country a couple weeks ago. He used the word to describe how he was feeling. Now I understand what he was talking about.

My adventure is about to start. I’m leaving the country for my first time tomorrow, and I am feeling equally excited and nervous. I’m excited about traveling with a good friend and the beautiful landscapes we’ll see, but my inexperience makes me nervous. I feel like such a noob.

I can plan as much as I want, but things aren’t going to go perfectly as planned. I’m sure no matter how hard I try, I will still pack too much. I’ll probably get turned around in the city — maybe even a little lost. But, it wouldn’t be an adventure if I was prepared for everything, right?

I’m eager to meet whatever comes my way.

So for now, I’ll steady my traveler’s heart with a Netflix binge. Tomorrow, my journey begins.
